How You Can Help Mentally ILL Homeless People

If you adopt a homeless person that  is mentally ill e.g. “Bones or Richie” you can help to enroll him/her in Ventura County Behavioral Health.
There is a Thousand Oaks office too, I work in the Ventura office.  There he can receive all the support services he needs; a case manager to assist him with activities of daily living (including transportation to go shopping, to doctor’s visits, etc.), housing, medications (psychiatric only),  assistance with applying for benefits (SSI, Medi-Cal, food stamps).  Eventually they can link your adopts up with medical care.   It is a one stop shop.
You have to call “STAR” to get him an intake appointment.  Their phone number is (805) 981-4233.
We have a “STAR” staff person come out to Ventura a few times a week to do the intakes.
Normally they are done in Oxnard but maybe someone goes out to east county as well.   Let me know if you have any further questions.

This is a good quest you are on.  Hope this helps.
